No matter if your Ft. Myers, Florida home is equipped with nothing but state of the art climate control systems, if you don’t have good airflow, your system can’t do its job effectively. Airflow is one of the most important components of a solid climate control system. Here are three ways you can improve your home’s airflow to get the most out of your HVAC system.
Keep Vents Open
Many homeowners are tempted to close their vents to help control the temperature in certain rooms. The efficacy of this practice is questionable, and it can often lead to poor airflow regardless. Air doesn’t just stay in the same room that it’s pumped into, but vents work together to create an overall comfortable environment. If a room is too cool, simply adjust the thermostat instead. Plus, closed vents can poorly affect your home’s efficiency.
Filters are extremely important parts of any climate control system. They work to pull out allergens and other debris from the air, trapping it in mesh. However, if a filter gets clogged, it can have a negative effect on airflow. Your HVAC system works by pulling air through this filter and it has to work extra hard if debris is blocking air from coming in. This, in turn, reduces air flow and decreases efficiency.
If your ductwork is dirty, it can inhibit airflow, leading to warm or cold spots in your house while also reducing your indoor air quality. Clear ductwork is best at moving air around your house and ensuring a constant temperature: the more debris that builds up inside, the more issues you may experience with airflow. You should consider hiring a professional to clean your ducts instead of attempting to do it yourself and potentially causing leaks in your ducts.
